Wrong buyer

The Butler School Board is completely inept at negotiating and fiscal management. When J.M. Beatty Furniture, a successful, tax-paying, for profit business offered $530,000 for Broad Street School, the board decided that the city needs a playground more than it needs the tax revenue and rejected the offer.

Update the tax code

I have been reading in the Butler Eagle about the money problems Butler is experiencing. Butler has a shrinking real estate tax base because so many large buildings are being converted to nonprofit or other forms of tax-exempt buildings. The ratio of taxable real estate to non-taxable is not two or three percent, but an amazing 38 to 40 percent of all the real estate in the city.

Risky smokers

Today I went to the VA to have my oxygen levels checked for continuation of my portable oxygen. I also watched a film on fire safety with the use of oxygen and smoking. I’m a former smoker.

Fair leadership

In January, the union employees in Butler County government were given raises now reported to be 3 percent and more. At the same time, all non-union employees, more than 150 of them, were given 0 percent — no increases at all. The raises were budgeted.
