NC golf team 4th at PIAA

North Catholic's Tommy Burke carded a plus-9 80 to lead the Trojans at the PIAA Class 2A boys golf team championship, held Monday at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.

The Trojans placed fourth out of six teams with 334 strokes. Devon Prep, from District 12, won the state title with 304 strokes.

Also scoring for North were Ethan Ellis (83), Justin Kontul (84) and Zach Cozza (87).

Other teams that competed were Lewisburg (313), Boiling Springs (331), Union City (344) and Tyrone (346).

Boys Soccer

In a WPIAL Class 2A first-round playoff, North Catholic posted a 1-0 shutout of host McGuffey.

No other details were available.

The Trojans (10-7) will travel to top-seeded South Park for a quarterfinal playoff Thursday.

Girls Volleyball

Mars defeated visiting Blackhawk, 3-0, in a WPIAL Class 3A preliminary-round playoff.

The Planets won by scores of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-22.

No other details were available.

The Planets advance to the first round and will travel to South Fayette Wednesday.
