ADAMS TWP — The Mars Area School District will honor Mars graduate and Pittsburgh Pirate pitcher David Bednar with a Black & Gold Day Thursday.

The Pirates' home opener is that day against the Chicago Cubs at PNC Park.

Students and staff in the Mars district are encouraged to wear black and gold colors that day to cheer on Bednar.

Game Commission has deer report

Pennsylvania hunters harvested 435,180 deer in the 2020-21 hunting season, including a state-record 174,780 bucks.

The antlerless deer harvest for 2020-21 was 260.400. That is the largest since 2004-05.

SR's Brown posts 3 more winners

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown registered two more victories Wednesday in harness racing at The Meadows.

Brown triumphed with Furious Fast, a 4-year-old mare and 1-5 favorite — in an $8,800 Conditioned Trot. He scored with another 4-year-old mare, Hot Fuss, in an $8,600 conditioned event.

Brown teamed with trainer Nathan Bresnahan of Butler for a Friday victory with Outspoken Man, a 4-year-old gelding.
