Donald Gene Emert, 91, of Cranberry Township, formerly of North Huntingdon, Pa., passed away peacefully on March 18, 2021.
He was born on Oct. 12, 1929, in Camden, N.J., and was the son of the late Lawrence and Anna Belle (Hoffman) Emert.
He grew up in Somerset, Pa., and attended Gettysburg College, where he was a star athlete in football and basketball.
After college, he worked as a financial analyst for U.S. Steel, until his retirement.
Upon retirement, Don enjoyed driving the school bus for the Norwin School District to stay busy. He spent much of his early adult life as a deacon of his Presbyterian church. He also enjoyed reading, golfing, trips to the casino, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine; his brother, Wayne Emert and his sister, Emily Schrock, both of Somerset, Pa.; and his son, Craig (Pam) Emert of Woodbridge, Va.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Janice Emert of Cranberry Township; his children, Donna (Mark) Heacox of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Sandra Emert of Latrobe, Scott (Sue) Emert of Lorton, Va., Lori (AJ) Sedlak of Cranberry Township, and Diane (Todd) Bookwalter of Cranberry Township; his grandchildren, Ashley, Joshua, Heather, Marcie, Scott, Jessica, Amanda, Emily, Chelsea, Billy, Stephanie, Madelyn, Aaron, Emily, Katelyn and Allison; and eight great-grandchildren.
EMERT — Due to COVID-19 concerns, there will be no visitation or service for Donald Gene Emert, who died Thursday, March 18, 2021.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Boylan-Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made in Don's name to the American Cancer Society.
