Stephanie Shaffer was named Junior Woman of the Year by the GFWC Junior Women's Club of Butler.

Club President Heidi Priest said the award goes to the member who has displayed outstanding service to the club and the community during the 2019-20 club year.

“We honor this year's recipient for her significant contributions to our club and community through her time, actions, talent and dedication,” Priest said. “She has a passion for helping others and truly serves as a role model for compassion and service.

“She strives to make the world a better place, and I can't think of anyone more deserving of this year's Junior Woman of the Year award,” said Priest.

Shaffer is the chairwoman of the Home Life Committee and has been sending cards to club members for their birthdays and gathering gifts for those who have had babies. She also sends sympathy cards when a club member loses a loved one.

The wife and mother of two is on the art committee and even organized a kitten shower for the Butler County Humane Society.

She and another member donated funding to help the Kids Closet apply for its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. She made a wish list for the Butler County Alliance for Children, gathered unwanted Halloween candy for the Mars Primary Center, collects change for Canine Companions, organized donations for The Lighthouse's annual toy drive, and hosted Friendsgiving.

She's also a member of the club's annual fundraiser sponsorship committee.

“She even joined our club's partnership with PA Volunteers,” Priest said. “This woman is first to raise her hand when volunteers are needed and often times the last one to leave volunteer activities.

“She has sought out and partnered with new nonprofits and gives back like it's her job. This member even served on the JWOTY committee, so unfortunately, this isn't a surprise to her,” she said.

In lieu of a gift, Shaffer requested that five flocks of chickens be donated to Heifer International, one of the organizations partnered with GFWC.

The General Federation of Women's Clubs is an international women's organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.
