Seneca Valley received pins from Chanz Shearer (138 pounds), Antonio Amelio (145), Liam Volk-Klos (182) and Nick Funovits (220) in a 34-29 victory over State College in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A team wrestling championship tournament Thursday in Hershey.

Two of State College’s wins came via forfeit (106 and 285). The Raiders led 22-3 after six bouts.

SV will face District 11 champion Nazareth, which disposed of Garnet Valley 69-3, in a quarterfinal at 2 p.m. Friday.

Girls Basketball

Harley Holloway stayed hot with 21 points and Sidney Shemanski scored 14 to eclipse 1,000 in her career as Freeport rolled 71-57 after a rough second quarter.

Samantha Clark added 14 and Maddie Clark 12 for the Yellowjackets, who saw Indiana close to two points of the lead at the half before Freeport pulled away in the final quarter.
