MARS — Mars welcomed a new council member and overhauled council committee structure Monday night during its annual reorganization meeting.

Members of council welcomed newly elected William Lambert to the board. Lambert replaces former councilman Douglas Weinrich, who did not seek re-election in 2019.

Council also voted on officers at the meeting, with Mike Fleming and Robert Bost remaining president and vice president, respectively.

Borough secretary Bonnie Forsythe said officials further agreed to revamp board committees for the upcoming year in an effort to improve communication between members of council. Instead of having three committees with three members each, there will now be a single department coordinator structure. This meaning council members will serve as designated representatives of individual departments, rather than on committees.

Council coordinator assignments are as follows:

- Robert Bost, administration and human resources.

- William Lambert, water department.

- Rick Foster, streets.

- Brad Price, building and finances.

- Christine Clutter, public safety.

- Julie Schultheis, parks and recreation.

As council president, Fleming is a de facto member of each department.

Each department coordinator acts as a liaison in a general capacity and is in charge of forming department committees as needed. Coordinators will be able to provide the board and public with any information or research regarding their corresponding departments.

Council also plans to rearrange meeting structure moving forward. Meetings remain the first and third Mondays of the month, but the second meeting will be more of a workshop. Council anticipates the second meeting being available for setting the agenda for the following month.

Both meetings remain open to the public.
