JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley High School freshman Rachel Spear was the first-place winner at Seneca Valley in the Mathematical Association of America’s American Mathematics Competition 10.
The AMC 10 and 12 are the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead to the International Mathematical Olympiad. Rachel’s high score also qualified her to take the American Invitational Mathematics Examination. She will find out if she advances to the IMO once her national exam is scored later this summer.
The MAA AMC program leads the nation in strengthening the mathematical capabilities of the next generation of problem solvers.
The competitions prepare students for future careers in STEM fields and nurture positive attitudes toward analytical thinking and mathematics.
