NC's Bartony heads to regionals

North Catholic senior golfer Tre Bartony finished in a three-way tie for fifth place by shooting a three-over-par 73 at the recent WPIAL Class AA Championship, held at Allegheny Country Club.

The effort advances him to the Western Regional, scheduled Monday at Tom's Run Golf Course in Blairsville.

SV slow-pitch earns sweep

JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley varsity slow-pitch softball team improved to 8-2 recently with an 18-13, 11-4 doubleheader sweep of Peters Township.

Mary Baker had four hits, including a grand slam, in the first game. Kaitlyn Welsh had four hits, including a homer, Sam Slusser four hits and Jenna Frontino three hits, including a homer.

Kayla Weigel had a home run among her two hits in Game 2. Welsh had four hits and Dalayna Frankenstein three.

“Learn to Swim” offered this fall

JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley Swim Club is offering a Learn to Swim program this fall.

Lessons are available Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings during September and October. Fees are $75 for a group lesson, $30 for a private lesson, $40 for semi-private (must be two children).

JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley Swim Club is putting together an Introduction to Swim Team group.

There will be no meets or competitions for this group. The program will focus on stroke development, swimming terminology and rules, building strength and endurance.

The program runs from 6 to 6:40 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through March 27, at the Intermediate High School Pool. Monthly rate is $90.

Rocktober Open slated Friday

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Rocktober Open golf event takes place Friday at Oakview Golf Club.

Proceeds from the four-person scramble benefit Slippery Rock University's Sport Management Scholarship Fund and the Cleveland Clinic VeloSano Bike to Cure.

Fee is $75 per person. Registration is at 8:30 a.m., shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Contact for details.
