CRANBERRY TWP — Whether it's presenting the colors at a local events or working to help veterans who need a hand, township VFW Post 879 has been a staple of the community for many years.

The organization was recently honored for service, being selected as a 2018 National Outstanding Community Service Post.

The award is given in recognition of the dedication, service and support a VFW post shows for its community. According to Rex Brown, quartermaster for the post, Post 879 was specifically named for its contributions to community, youth and veterans needs, in time and funds donated in their support.

Brown traveled to Kansas City in July to accept the award during the VFW National Convention from National Commander Keith Harman.

“Since 1899 community service has been a tenet of the VFW, and the tireless work and dedication Post 879 has displayed is a perfect example of the support and impact of the VFW provides to communities across the globe,” Harman said.
