County girls hoop teams among best

Pa.GirlsHoops has released its preseason Pennsylvania high school girls basketball rankings.

North Allegheny is ranked No. 1 in Class 6A. Mars is ranked No. 5 in Class 5A and Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic is No. 4 in Class 4A.

Other teams from the region ranked among the top 10 are Penn Hills (5) in Class 6A, Chartiers Valley (3), Oakland Catholic (6) and Hampton (7) in 5A, Villa Maria (2) and Blackhawk (7) in 4A, Bishop Canevin (2), West Shamokin (3), Neshannock (4) and East Allegheny (9) in 3A, Chartiers Houston (6), Vincentian (7) and OLSH (8) in 2A, Winchester Thurston (5), Kennedy Catholic (6), North Clarion (8) and St. Joseph (10) in 1A.

SV hosting girls hoop clinics

The Seneca Valley girls basketball program is offering its Little Dribblers, In-House and Travel program to prospective players.

The Little Dribblers program introduces fundamentals of basketball to girls in kindergarten through second grade. Fee is $50 and the program takes place on Saturday afternoons in January at Haine Middle School.

Registration deadline is Dec. 22.

Lernerville adds Wednesday racing

BUFFALO TWP — The 2018 Lernerville Speedway racing season will begin April 20.

The track has announced its schedule for next year, with the 12th annual Firecracker 100 weekend set for June 21-23 and the 27th annual Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup race July 17.

Starting in May, each third Wednesday of the month will feature the RUSH Sprints, 4 Cylinder Cars and Still Motorsports UTV races.
