Prep football Week 2 on tap

Seneca Valley, Mars and Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic will all be in conference action on the gridiron Friday night.

In its Northern Seven opener, Seneca Valley (0-1) will host Pine-Richland (2-0) at 7:30 p.m.

In Northwest Nine Conference play, Mars (1-1) will face visiting Blackhawk (0-1) at 7 p.m.

CWNC (1-1) travels to Lawrence County to meet Midwestern Conference foe Mohawk (1-0) at 7 p.m.

Golf outing set this month

The 22nd annual Seneca Valley Boys Golf Boosters Club golf outing is Sept. 23 at Connoquenessing Country Club.

Entry fee is $100 per person and includes greens fees, cart, lunch and dinner. The format is a four-person scramble with the top four teams winning.

Lunch is at 11:30 a.m., shotgun start at 1 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. Checks must be received by Sept. 15 and should be mailed to Sally Hangliter, 246 Cumberland Drive, Seven Fields, Pa., 16046.

Hunter education courses on tap

A few hunter-trapper education courses remain scheduled in Butler County. These courses are the last classes of the training year.

Online registration on the Pa, Game Commission’s website is recommended for these courses. Persons 16 or older may complete the training entirely online for a fee of $19.50.

Traditional classroom training is free of charge. The upcoming course schedule follows:

Saturday — St. Paul Lutheran Church, Zelienople, Strobel Hall, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Sept. 26-27 — Moraine Sportsman’s Club, 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Oct. 21 — Marion Twp. Fire/Social Hall, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Nov. 7-8 — Jennings Environmental Education Center, 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Nov. 18 — Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Baseball skills clinic planned

The Penn State Behrend baseball team will host a collegiate baseball skills clinic Oct. 7 for student-athletes in grades 9-12.

The $50 clinic runs from 1 to 4 p.m. and includes instruction and a T-shirt. Email coach Paul Benim at for info.
