Edinger wins St. Barnabas 5K

GIBSONIA — Nick Edinger, 26, of Mars was the top male finisher Saturday in the 26th annual St. Barnabas Free Care 5K.

Edinger completed the course in 15 minutes, 14 seconds, just 38 seconds off the course record. Laura Harnish, 30, was the top female finisher in 17:43.

Edinger and Harnish received a $250 courtesy prize from First National Bank of Gibsonia.

The 5K benefits the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund, which provides more than $7 million annually to patients who cannot afford their care.

Golf outing coming in Sept.

The 2017 Park UP Church in Zelienople will hold its memorial golf outing Sept. 9 at Strawberry Ridge Golf Course.

Golfing begins at 8 a.m.

Cost is $80 and includes golf, cart, snack, contest, prizes, awards and a picnic buffet. Registration deadline is Sept. 1.

All proceeds will be used to buy an automatic external defibrillator for Strawberry Ridge Golf Course in memory of Missy Cartwright, an employee there who died from cardiac arrest last year.

Learn to Swim holding lessons

The Seneca Valley Swim Club’s Learn to Swim program will hold a weekday evening session from 6:30 to 7:10 p.m. Aug. 28 through Sept. 1 at the SV Intermediate High School pool.

Private and semi-private lessons will be from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m.

Prices are $75 for a group lesson, $30 per private lesson and $40 per semi-private lesson. Contact Lisa at or for details.

SVSC tryouts later this month

The Seneca Valley Swim Club will hold tryouts for the 2017-18 season from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 28 and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 29.

Tryouts will be held at the Seneca Valley Intermediate High School pool.

Golf scramble planned Aug. 26

The Portersville-Prospect Rotary Club will hold its 20th annual golf scramble Aug. 26 at Lake Arthur Golf Club.

Shotgun start is 8 a.m.

Fee is $320 for a foursome and covers golf, cart, beer, pop, coffee, donuts, hot dogs, a buffet lunch and multiple prizes.

Proceeds benefit the rotary club, including scholarships, local food pantry and other local charities. Entry fee is due by Monday.
