ADAMS TWP — A new community group received unanimous approval from the township supervisors for additional walking paths at the community park.

Janel Kasowski asked the supervisors at their Monday night meeting if the newly formed Trail Adams group can place a little more than one additional mile of walking trail in the wooded areas of the park at the intersection of Three Degree and Valencia roads.

Kasowski said the paths’ surface will be grass, and would require mowing by the township.

She said the trails are planned for the scenic wooded areas of the large park.

“It would allow our residents to get to areas of the park that they cannot access now,” Kasowski told the board.

The trail would also benefit the Mars High School varsity cross country team, which could use the paths for practice. Kasowski’s son is a member of the team.

“It would more accurately simulate their course,” she said.

Supervisor Linda Lees said the supervisors are enthusiastic about the new trails.

“We approve of this,” she said.

Supervisor Russ Ford said board members also relied on the recommendation of the township parks and recreation board in making their decision on the new trails.

He said the township will maintain the trails for the summer to see if they are used by residents.

With the added grass paths, the total amount of trails in the park will be just more than 2.5 miles, Kasowski said.
