Contracts awarded for vo-tech project

BUTLER TWP — The board of directors of the Butler County Vo-Tech Thursday night approved bids for an $11 million construction project.

However, the bids came in under budget at $9.3 million.
The contracts went to:
• General construction — Gurtner Construction of Pittsburgh, $5.3 million
• Plumbing — East End Plumbing & Mechanical of Pittsburgh, $847,000
• Heating, ventilation and air conditioning — D&G Mechanical of West Middlesex, $1.4 million
• Electrical — Merit Electric Group of Oakmont, $1.7 million
The project will update existing school space and add new space.
A large addition on the north side of the school property will be for the relocated heavy equipment repair program, an addition will be built on the west side of the vo-tech building for classroom and office space, and a two- story addition will be added to the existing two-story building with the cosmetology department to be on the first floor and part of the culinary arts department on the ground floor.
The project will renovate 85,000 square feet of existing space and add 31,000 square feet in new space.
