Seneca boys rip lacrosse powerhouse in 13-8 win

Jake McAndrew tallied four goals, and Sean Dailey and Will Koontz had three scores each as the Seneca Valley boys lacrosse team defeated central Pennsylvania powerhouse Manheim Township, 13-8 Friday night at NexTier Stadium. Manheim was ranked No. 9 in the state entering the game and SV (10-0) has now taken over that spot. The Raiders also are ranked No. 1 in Western Pennsylvania. Also scoring in Friday's win were Sean O'Rourke, Sam Jarrett and Andy Hickman with one goal apiece. Joe Chowansky led a staunch defensive effort for SV and goalie Brian Bohn had 11 saves. n Sean O'Rourke led SV with five goals, Jake McAndrew had four, Sam Jarrett had three, Will Koontz had two and Jordan Kelly had one as the Raiders defeated division rival Sewickley Academy 15-6 last Wednesday. John Bowers, Joe Chowansky and Nate Siebert played strong on defense, with Brian Bohn making nine saves in the win. Seneca Valley will host rival North Allegheny at 7:30 p.m. today. Softball Megan Buletko doubled and tripled, but Seneca Valley dropped a 5-4, eight-inning decision to North Allegheny Friday. SV's Emily Watson pitched well in defeat, giving up five runs on nine hits while striking out five and walking two. The Planets led 10-4 after five innings but were outscored 9-2 the rest of the way. Offensive stars for Mars included Ryan McKenzie with a triple and two RBI, Tyler Dean with a double, two runs scored and two RBI and James Fox with a double, run scored and two RBI.
