CRANBERRY TWP — A lottery ticket worth $1 million for last Tuesday's Mega Millions was sold at the Giant Eagle on Route 19. No one has claimed the Mega Millions ticket or a Powerball ticket sold Feb. 10 in Philadelphia also worth $1 million. Winners have a year to claim the prize, according to a news release from the Pennsylvania Lottery. The winning ticket matched all five white balls, 02-17-20-26-48, but not the yellow Mega Ball 12. The person also bought Megaplier, which multiplied the second-tier prize of $250,000 by four for the $1 million prize, less 25 percent in federal withholding tax. The Pennsylvania Lottery has sold five $1 million tickets for Powerball and Mega Millions in recent weeks. Mega Millions tickets cost $1 per play. Players pick five numbers from 1 to 56 and one number from 1 to 46 for the Mega Ball. For an extra $1 per play, players can add the Megaplier. Giant Eagle said the store owner had gone home and was unavailable for comment. The store also will get money for selling the ticket. Butler County has had other big lottery winners in the past decade. Most recently, in 2005, the Sunoco A-Plus store at the corner of Route 19 and Freeport Road sold an $18.7 million Powerball lottery ticket. Also, that year, a group of seven National City Bank employees in Butler claimed a ticket worth $853,492. In 2003, Scott and Marian Calligan of Cranberry Township split a $260 million Powerball jackpot with a couple from Hermann, Mo.
