A woman whose large stash of drugs and cash was discovered when she tried to shoplift $71 worth of items from Wal-Mart in Cranberry Township will spend up to four years in state prison. Abby Lee Schneider, who last month entered a plea arrangement with the Butler County District Attorney office, pleaded guilty to retail theft and possession with intent to deliver 3.7 grams of heroin. Schneider, 26, of Sewickley, Allegheny County, was sentenced Thursday by Butler County Judge William Shaffer. She was sentenced to serve 18 to 48 months in state prison and pay $71 in restitution to the Wal-Mart. However, if Schneider completes a rehabilitation program in the prison, she could be released in as few 13Z\x months. According to court records, Schneider was arrested Aug. 23 after Wal-Mart security employees noticed her stuffing items into her purse. Schneider when caught allegedly acknowledged that the watch on her wrist was stolen and other items were in her purse. In addition to items that had been taken from the store, police found 132 stamp bags of heroin, pills and $1,943 in her purse. Court records say Schneider's purse also had 112 prescription pills, including oxycodone, clonazepam, alprazolam and diazepam. Oxycodone is a powerful painkiller while the other pills are primarily used to quell anxiety and panic attacks. Also in the purse were items used to ingest heroin, including a syringe and a metal spoon. Court records indicate Schneider previously was convicted of drug possession in four cases between 2004 and 2006 in Allegheny County. She also has prior convictions of theft and writing bad checks.
