Cranberry municipal offices will get face-lift Renovations to cost $15,000
CRANBERRY TWP — The township's offices will get a face-lift with a number of aesthetic and functional improvements including a newly designed town square area. This April, it will be 20 years since the township moved its offices into the municipal center at 2525 Rochester Road. John Trant, chief strategic planning officer, told the supervisors Thursday the goal of the improvements is to deliver quality customer service in a cost effective manner. He said the changes should provide a safe environment and encourage visitors to mingle while conducting their business, visiting the library or waiting for their children. The township also wants to encourage use of the town square as a gathering area and place to showcase programs and events. Township manager Jerry Andree said Cranberry's budget for the improvements is $15,000 with the work scheduled to be completed by early summer. Trant said the major change will come to the town square, where the current raised stage will be removed and replaced with vinyl flooring. New tables and chairs will be installed to create a gathering area. Multilingual welcome signs will be installed at both ends of the town square and mounted directional signs will be installed to direct visitors to appropriate offices. A new art gallery area will be designed showing the paintings the township has bought. The paintings will be shown on a wall in the hallway behind the council chambers with a plaque describing how these pieces were acquired. Trant said that the current township Time Capsule area will be moved inside the public library and new matching benches will be placed throughout the building. International banners will be hung from the rafters and a 52-inch television screen will be installed in the area of the trophy case that will show daily activity schedules and special events. The two smaller screens currently operating in the municipal center will be relocated to the public works department and to the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course. The backing in the township's glass display where public notices are posted will be replaced to allow for more flexible uses. The municipal center is currently home to the township's administration offices as well as the sewer and water department, police department, the public library, parks and recreation, township preschool, council chambers, senior-teen center, activity rooms, property tax office, THE CHAMBER of Commerce office, and offices of state Sen. Jane Orie, R-40th, and state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, R-12th.
