Butler places 1st, Seneca 2nd in mock trial event
Butler High School took first place in this year's Pennsylvania Bar Association's Statewide Mock Trial Competition at the Butler County Courthouse. Seneca Valley High School took second place. Students Mara Shingleton, Shannon Gallagher, Madison Kerr, Patrick Fitz, Zach Tomasovic, Stefan Kemp, Stephen Wuchina, and David Thompson from Butler High School and students Megan Abbate, Alycia Acquaviva, Elizabeth Dadey, Adam Dorko, Alex Guckes, Stephanie Bullis, Lara Dorko, Amanda Francis, Dana Schneider, and Michael Wolfe from Seneca Valley High School competed in Thursday night's championship. Butler's, Madison Kerr was voted best advocate, Stephen Wuchina best witness. For Seneca the Best Witness Award went to Alex Guckes and Stephanie Bullis and Megan Abbate and Dana Schneider received the Best Advocate Award. Butler High School student advisers are: John Lesjack and David Cooper and attorney adviser is Michael Gallagher. Seneca Valley High School student adviser is Dale Wagner and attorney advisers are Julie Brennan and Allison Shuster. Butler will face the Beaver County District 2 champion in the district playoff Feb. 24 in Lawrence County. The winner of the district playoff will move on to the regional playoff, set for March 2 in Butler County. Butler County Bar Association and members of Butler County Court Administration and Tipstaves host the annual event.
