Auxiliary installs officers, lauds volunteers

RICHLAND TWP — The 2010 officers for the St. Barnabas Charities Auxiliary were installed and volunteers were recognized during the organization's annual meeting recently at The Village at St. Barnabas, 5850 Meridian Road.

The following new officers were installed for a two-year term: Dianne Whetsell of Coraopolis, president; Ramona Henderson of Moon Township, first vice president; and Linda Dankmyer of Richland Township, corresponding secretary. They will join current officers entering the second year of their two-year term, who are: Martha Taylor of Richland Township as recording secretary; Joyce Kirkbride of West Deer Township, second vice president; and Fran Sheffler of Crescent Township, treasurer.
In 2009, the auxiliary raised a record-setting $197,178 for the free care fund, which supports poor and low-income patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods and The Arbors.
Among the fundraising events were two golf tournaments, the Kean Idol talent competition, a fashion gala, a treasure sale, 50/50 raffles, and flower, candy, hoagie and bake sales. In its 23 years of service. auxiliary members have raised more than $1.7 million for St. Barnabas patients.
Also during the meeting, the top 10 volunteers were honored for contributing the most hours of service during 2009.
Those recognized and volunteer hours included:
• Anne Farrell of Richland Township, 115 hours.
• Bernice Derby, Richland. Township, 59.
• Loraine Day, Richland Township, 52.
• Teddy Esler, Valencia, 49.
• Aline Powell, Richland Township, 45.
• Judy Moore, Gibsonia, 44.
• Lucille Marsico, Valencia, 43.
• Barbara Keane, Valencia, 42.
• Sally Keener, Valencia, 35,
• Loretta Metz, Valencia, 35.
