East Lancaster Road near Yellow Creek Road in Lancaster Township closed Monday evening due to a vehicle accident that sent one man to the hospital by medical helicopter.
According to Lancaster Township police, a pickup truck lost its brakes while traveling east on East Lancaster Road. The vehicle drove up onto an embankment and struck a bridge. During the accident, the truck sideswiped another vehicle.
According to police, the truck driver suffered an injury to his leg but was conscious and was able to extricate himself from the vehicle.
The driver was taken by ambulance to a waiting LifeFlight helicopter, which took him to UPMC Mercy.
Police said a Lancaster Township police officer, who was at the scene and administered aid, was conducting unrelated traffic stops at the scene when the accident occurred.
Crews from Lancaster police and Harmony fire are at the scene.
