Butler County residents will probably not notice any effect of the partial shutdown of the federal government, according to local officials.
The shutdown occurred after President Donald Trump refused to agree to a federal budget that does not include the $5 billion request to fund the border wall he says will prevent illegal immigration in the South.
Social Security checks and services, passport procurement and the U.S. Postal Service will continue throughout the shutdown, according to communications received by local agencies.
Veterans services and benefits also will be unaffected during the shutdown, said Ken Kalberer, executive assistant to director of VA Butler Healthcare.
“No VA services will be affected by the shutdown,” he said.
